To promote healthy lifestyles through exercise, athletic competition, and social connections for adults in every stage of life.
Our primary emphasis is within the state of Nevada, but we welcome adults and "active agers" from out of state and around the world to participate in our events.
OUR HISTORY
1979: Seventeen participants competed in six events, sponsored by the Catholic Community Services and held at Paradise Park.
1980: Pat Dillingham, a former U.S. Olympic figure skater, Gene Hardlicka, Roger Hall, and Mary Liveratti founded the Nevada Senior Games (NVSG). University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) staff members brought the Games to the campus for the first Nevada Senior Olympic Games, a one-day spring event.
1985: NVSG incorporated
1985: NVSG's Gene Hardlicka and representatives from 33 other state games gathered in Orlando, Florida for the formation of the National Senior Games Association.
1987: The first National Senior Games took place in St. Louis. Legendary comedian Bob Hope served as Master of Ceremonies at the closing ceremonies.
PRESENT DAY: 2025
Participation has grown to more than 1,000 athletes annually
The number of sports offered has grown to more than 20 on average
Events take place over September and October
The majority of events take place in Las Vegas, Henderson, and Boulder City
Nevada Senior Games DBA Silver State Games becomes effective on April 7, 2025
OUR FUTURE
By lowering the age requirement for many of our sports, we can now showcase the importance of active aging through healthy living and fitness to more people.
Continue offering new and traditional sports and events that motivate, inspire, and engage adults of varying ages to live more actively and healthfully.
